Since I was a little girl I have washed my hair in cold water. There was something about cold on the scalp that just felt like it was good for my hair.
As it turns out, my intuition was right ( it’s not always, so this is exciting ) & in this post, I’ll tell you why you & everyone you know should wash your hair in cold water. If you don’t have the guts, I got you. Just finish off with a quick cold rinse.
Anyway, in this post, we’re going to talk all about the benefits that come from washing your hair in cold water, plus the best shower cap ( if you’re into cold showers but not getting your hair wet ) & hair ‘perfume.’
All The Benefits Of Washing Your Hair With Cold Water
Sidenote: If you haven’t heard about Wim Hof, his breathing method & his freezing cold showers, you have to check out this post. I’ve been doing this for the past year & it’s literally life-changing & sets the tone of your day like nothing else.
So, my point is, sometimes I do a fucking freezing cold shower but I don’t wash my hair. On those days I like to use a very specific shower cap which I highly recommend.
There’s this shower cap called the Shhhower Cap ( big fan of the leopard kinda one called The Tortuga ).
So the best thing about this shower cap is that it’s the shower cap ‘reinvented.’ It’s made with this nano-technology fabric that repels water, which means it also keeps the humidity out of your hair. They say “it’s not only waterproof, it’s hydrophobic.”
It’s worth mentioning my favorite thing about this shower cap is that it dries super fast. So as soon as you step out of the shower the water it’s dry. You won’t be standing there like a wet rat trying to take a soaking wet thing off your head.
This one also won’t get gross with mold or mildew or other bacteria. You know how sometimes you take off a shower cap, crumple it up & it ends up smelling like a nasty-rat butthole at the back of your cabinet? Well, this shower cap is made with some special antibacterial fabric so that WON’T happen.
Alright alright, let’s get to the nitty gritty.
The Benefits of Washing Your Hair With Cold Water:
♡ it closes the hair cuticle which gives you the shine we all love.
♡ preserves your natural oils, again keeping your hair healthy with shine.
♡ locks in extra moisture & gives you that bouncy Herbal Essence commercial look.
♡ makes your hair softer, more manageable & resistant to breakage.
♡ preserves hair color: hot rinsing can make your color fade quicker.
For me, why wouldn’t I wash my hair in cold water ( but I like it FREEZING COLD ) ? I even ask for it when I’m getting a blowout.
So there ya go, if you’re highlighted up, bleached out, or just want your hair to be a little shinier, this tip is for you.
Like I said, if you don’t have the guts for an entire cold shower, just finish off with a quick cold blast for the benefits.
It’s worth mentioning that I very much recommend some vitamins for the hair. YES, your hair needs vitamins. Big big fan of In Common Magic Myst Elixir. The smell is out of this world, I get asked all the time what perfume I’m wearing, but it’s just this amazing leave-in potion. It strengthens, hydrates, protects & like I said, is the best smell in the whole world. I can’t live without it & have probably gone through about 10 bottles. You can use it on damp hair or dry hair. I do both.
HOT TIP:
If you aren’t sure about your water quality I highly recommend checking out the Raindrops shower filter. It basically screws right on to any shower head & protects your hair & skin by filtering out 99% of minerals, heavy metals & chlorine in your water. All this shit can cause dryness, texture changes, hair color changes & even hair loss.
So if your hair is feeling dry or brittle, you’ll be good to go with a cold shower & Raindrops.
TA-DA !! Anyone & everyone who reads TSC should try cold rinsing. It’s very ‘us.’ I promise.

+ my favorite hairbrush.
++ just the most ideal shower cap.
