Several people were injured during a massive 40-car pileup on a snowy highway in Iowa on Thursday, authorities said.
The multi-vehicle crash happened in the eastbound lanes on Interstate 80 between Colfax and Newton, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The agency said there were “few serious injuries and several minor injuries.”
No state troopers were injured, the agency added.
Photos of the crash posted to social media show several mangled vehicles in the wreckage, including a truck on top of a crushed car and multiple damaged tractor-trailers on the side of the road.
A blizzard ripped through Iowa Thursday, and people were encourage not to travel in north central Iowa due to high winds and blowing snow, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
