The auction for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to take place on February 18. A total of 1097 players (814 Indian and 283 overseas players) will be involved in this year’s auction. IPL has given this information on its official Twitter handle. The BCCI had recently clarified that every effort is being made to ensure IPL 14 takes place in India. The 13th season of IPL was played in the UAE due to Coronavirus.
The IPL 14 auction will include big names like Aaron Finch, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris. Australia’s lynchpin batsman Steve Smith is one of biggest players to watch out for in the auction this year.
Smith was released by Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the IPL auction and Sanju Samson was appointed the new captain of RR. Another Aussie great, Aaron Finch was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore this year.
In January this year, all the teams submitted their list of retained and released players to the BCCI. RCB’s had released the maximum number of 10 players, while Punjab had released 9 players from the team.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians retained the most players. Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final match of IPL 2020, for a record fifth time to win the IPL title.
The players list for Indian Premier League (IPL) auction incorporates 207 capped, 863 uncapped and 27 Associate players.
