India got off to a poor start as they lost opener Shubman Gill in the second over of the innings. Gill departed for a three-ball duck as he shouldered arms and was trapped leg before by a Olly Stone delivery. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara combined to steady the Indian innings with the former playing attacking shots. Rohit’s attacking approach saw him bringing up his half-century off just 47 balls. Earlier, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat against England in the second Test in Chennai. India made three changes to their playing XI with the most notable one being Jasprit Bumrah being rested and Mohammed Siraj taking his spot. The hosts also made two changes in their spin department with Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem making way for Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel — who is set to make his Test debut. The visitors also made several changes to their starting XI — Stuart Broad coming in to replace James Anderson, Olly Stone replacing injured Jofra Archer and Ben Foakes taking over the wicket-keeping duties from Jos Buttler, who has travelled back to England. Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat as he expects the pitch to be good for batting on day 1 and start breaking down from second day onwards. England have already made their final XII available for the match, with several key changes — James Anderson rested with Stuart Broad taking his spot. Jofra Archer is out with injury, while Dom Bess is replaced by Moeen Ali. Wicket-keeper Jos Buttler has travelled back home and Ben Foakes will be taking his spot in the starting XI.
For India, Axar Patel is back from injury and is available for selection for this Test. Indian management has not divulged too much about who will make the cut, keeping their cards close to their chest. Shahbaz Nadeem, who played the first Test, has gone back to the reserves along with Rahul Chahar.

Having lost the first Test by 227 runs, the Virat Kohli-led side can’t afford to lose any more games as they have to win at least two matches to stand a chance to enter the World Test Championship summit clash at the Lord’s.
