At least seven people are injured after 21 vehicles were involved in a crash on an icy Nashville road on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred on Interstate 24 close to Old Hickory Boulevard in Tennessee at around 8am, the Nashville Police Department said in a statement on Twitter.
Local fire officials confirmed that 12 people were taken to hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash, as the twelve others involved in the incident were uninjured.
A winter weather advisory was in place on Saturday morning for large parts of central Tennessee, as the state’s National Weather Service warned that “freezing drizzle, freezing fog, and light freezing rain may create very slick conditions this morning.”
Prior to the crash, the service urged drivers to “Slow down and use extra caution when traveling,” as signs on the interstate warned: “Reduce speed, patches of ice possible, use caution.”
