PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to launch a raid on his former club Tottenham for a veteran performer who does not enjoy the same relationship with Jose Mourinho as he did with the Argentine.
Pochettino left North London in 2019 after a a five-year run that transformed Tottenham into title challengers.
After over a year out of the game, he resurfaced as the new manager in Paris with a whole host of talent at his disposal.
Back at Spurs, a number of current players have dipped in form since the Argentine’s dismissal.
Dele Alli has fallen down the pecking order under Mourinho, leading to speculation of a switch to Paris in the winter window. Elsewhere, Hugo Lloris’ form has been patchy to say the least.
Despite this, however, The Sun (citing Football Insider) report that Pochettino is ‘ready to raid’ Tottenham for club captain Lloris.
The pair enjoyed a ‘close relationship’ at Spurs. This is in contrast to Lloris’ relationship with Mourinho which the article described as ‘not as strong’
The Frenchman has 18 months remaining on his current contract. However, at age 35, Tottenham may be willing to cash in if a suitable offer is tabled.
Bale wages having Sergio Ramos implications
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s insistence that Sergio Ramos takes a pay cut is so that the club can continue to pay Gareth Bale next season, claims a report.
The Covid-19 pandemic has hammered the La Liga giants. They incurred a loss of €106m in revenue for the 2019/20 financial year.
They did not sign anyone in the summer and their wage budge has reduced by more than €200m this season.
That in part has been due to Bale’s loan deal to Tottenham. Both Real Madrid and Tottenham are believed to be splitting his £27m salary equally.
According to AS, the year-long deal has no automatic option for a further extension, but Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett said there was a possibility that Bale could stay if things go well.
