Graeme Souness has issued a damning verdict of Manchester United’s title hopes after their 1-1 draw with West Brom.
United dropped two points on Sunday after being held by the relegation-threatened Baggies.
It was Albion who took the lead in the game early on. United required a Bruno Fernandes volley to restore parity, but could not build from it.
The result leaves them seven points behind rivals Manchester City, who have a game in hand. Even though there are still 14 games for United to play, their chances of winning the league are quickly fading.
After the game, Sky Sports pundit Souness took issue with United captain Harry Maguire’s assertion that the Hawthorns was a tough place to go.
Instead, the former Liverpool midfielder highlighted how significant the dropped points could be for United.
“This is such a bad result for Manchester United,” he said.
“Maguire has just said it’s a difficult place to come. West Brom have won one game at home against the bottom team, that’s a difficult place to go if you’re second or third in the league?
“West Brom had the better chances. That is an exceptionally poor performance and result for Manchester United, when you think they’ve got a chance of putting the pressure on Manchester City. Nah.”

Solskjaer not giving up
While insisting that he never expected United to be in a title race, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave a mixed message about their chances of competing for top spot after the West Brom game.
“I said we shouldn’t be talked about [in the title race],” the United boss said. “A compliment for the boys we got into position we are now.
“We won’t let them [Manchester City] run away with it – we’re playing them soon. We’re not giving it away early – no we’re not.”
