Liverpool have moved to secure the future of Caoimhin Kelleher by opening talks over a new long-term contract, according to the Irish Examiner.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper has made a significant breakthrough this season in terms of playing for the first team, surpassing Adrian as the preferred backup option to regular first choice Alisson Becker. He has stood between the posts twice in the Premier League so far, as well as twice in the Champions League and once in the FA Cup. Of these five occasions, he managed to keep a clean sheet on two.
Kelleher’s current deal expires in the summer of 2022, but it seems the Merseysiders aren’t willing to let that happen. Manager Jurgen Klopp spoke very highly of his talents several times during the season. Meanwhile, Adrian will be out of contract this summer and given Kelleher’s progress, Liverpool aren’t expected to offer the 34-year-old Spaniard a new one.
