As millions around the world continue to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, one slice of normality has remained the same – sport. We’re firmly in the February groove and that means we’re going to be experiencing a whole lost of games coming at us thick and fast between now and May, which is especially true in the English Premier League. Today, we’re going to take a look at a fixture between two teams with very different aspirations this season – Arsenal and Manchester City.
Arsenal
The Mikel Arteta rollercoaster has been quite the ride so far for Arsenal Football Club with the jury still being out on whether or not he is the right man for the job. The Spaniard clearly has a goal in mind for what he wants to accomplish in North London, and between bringing through passionate youngsters to replace the outgoing deadwood, his mission statement is impressive. Now, though, he needs to back it up with some tactical nuisance on the pitch.
Team News
Tierney is expected to feature in the starting XI for this one with the only major injury concern being Partey who didn’t travel with the Arsenal team during the week.
Manchester City
The Manchester City train just keeps on rolling and there is absolutely no way of slowing this bad boy down. They have gone from struggling to break into the top four to champions-elect in a matter of months, and now, it’s hard to see them losing again for quite some time. Liverpool may have helped out through their poor form and various injuries, but City can only beat what’s put out in front of them, and they’ve been doing that with ruthless efficiency lately.
Team News
Ake is still out through injury but Gundogan, who has been in sensational form recently, is a doubt after picking up a groin injury. The best news of the day for the visitors, however, is that Kevin De Bruyne will be back and available for selection.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in December, Man City beat Arsenal 4-1 in the Carabao Cup.
- Arsenal have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- Man City have won their last 17 games in all competitions.
- Arsenal have scored nine goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Man City have scored 16 goals and conceded three in their last six games.
Arsenal have shown signs of a potential resurgence in recent weeks but we can’t imagine it’ll be enough for them to overcome the seemingly unstoppable Manchester City. The visitors just have too many tools at their disposal and the longer the game goes on, the more vulnerable the Gunners are going to be – so long as City can score early. We’re going to predict a 4-1 win for Pep’s men, replicating the result they secured just a few months ago in the cup.
