A former Florida cop has been charged with breaching the US Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection — and declaring on Facebook that “America has spoken. You cannot stop millions of people,” according to a report.
Nicholes Lentz, 41, who served with the North Miami Beach Police Department from June 2016 until last August, was charged with entering a restricted building or grounds and disruptive and disorderly conduct on restricted grounds, the Miami Herald reported.
“We’re not here to hurt any cops, of course. I love my boys in blue, but this is overwhelming for them. There’s no way they can hold us back,” Lentz said in the video he posted live on Facebook, according to an FBI affidavit cited by the paper.
The feds interviewed Lentz at his home in Boynton Beach on Friday and he admitted to being inside the Capitol building during the riots, according to court records.
He said he “drove through the night from Florida to Washington, DC, arriving in the early hours of Jan. 6” to attend then-President Trump’s rally, which took place shortly before the riots erupted.
The ex-cop denied committing any acts of physical violence.
“Lentz believed no one at the U.S. Capitol seemed concerned about trespassing, nor were there any warning signs regarding trespassing,” according to the FBI affidavit. “He stated that, despite the foregoing, ‘of course you know you’re trespassing.’ ”
The former US Marine, who left his position with the police agency voluntarily, posted bail after his bond was set at $25,000, according to the news outlet.
