The new and updated Huawei MatePad comes with WiFi 6 and packs the new Kirin 810 octa-core chipset.
Industrial design
Coming in a 450 g form factor with just 7.9 mm bezels, the Huawei MatePad is perfect for users on the move.
The narrow bezels help it achieve a screen-to-body ratio of 84 per-cent. Furthermore, its Micro-arc middle frame gives rise to an integrated shielding design. This incorporates the antennas and allows the middle frame to seamlessly connect with the back.
Immersive multimedia
You get a 10.4-inch FullView 2,000 x 1,200 resolution 2K display with eye protection on the Huawei MatePad. This is bolstered by Huawei’s ClariVu Display Enhancement technology which uses alogrithms to optimise dark images and video scenes. The tablet also supports Histen 6.0 for 3D stereo sound effects to complement its visuals. On the device, you find four high amplitude speakers that deliver a home theatre-like cinematic audio experience tuned by Harman Kardon.
All-round performance
The Kirin 810 processor that powers the Huawei MatePad is an octa-core 7 nm chipset clocked at 2.27GHz. It includes a Mali-G52 graphics processor with GPU Turbo 3.0 as well as a Da Vinci NPU to handle AI processing and enable novel and sophisticated smart features.
Running EMUI 10.1, the software pairs well with the hardware on the device. You can use multi-screen collaboration to quickly connect your Huawei smartphone to the MatePad and take advantage of file sharing between the devices. There is also support for App Multiplier, a feature that shows two instances of the same application in two different windows.
With an 8MP front camera, you are also covered for video calling. The Huawei MatePad has four microphones to reduce noise and external sound within five meters. A feature called FollowCam is also supported by the 8MP wide-angle front camera to track moving subjects and adjust the screen accordingly. Aimed at children, you find a Kids Corner which offers a safe and secure zone for children to learn and have fun.
Pricing and availability
Pre-orders for the Huawei MatePad in Grey with 128GB of storage begin on February 25 for Dh1,299. These include a Huawei Smart Keyboard as a gift worth Dh449. The 128GB variant will be available in store from March 4 whereas the 64GB variant of the tablet goes on-shelf on March 18 priced at Dh1,099. Both versions will be available from Huawei’s official website as well as Huawei Experience Stores, E-shops and select retailers across the UAE.
