Tiger Woods was severely injured in a single vehicle roll-over collision in Los Angeles early Tuesday, according to law enforcement officials.
Woods was injured in the crash at roughly 10:12 a.m. ET on Tuesday. Reports indicated first responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department — who reportedly were notified of the crash by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at 10:22 a.m. and responded to the scene at 10:28 a.m. — had to use a pry bar and axe to remove the golf star from the vehicle.
The Los Angeles Times reported Woods was transported from the crash site to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center via ambulance with a shattered ankle and two leg fractures, one of which was compound. He is currently in stable condition.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Woods had been in the Los Angeles area hosting The Genesis Invitational golf event; the car he was driving — reportedly a 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV — was provided to him by the tournament. He had been in the Los Angeles area for a few extra days on a Golf Digest shoot with former NBA star Dwyane Wade and actor and comedian David Spade.
Woods, 45, recently underwent back surgery, his fifth, after playing in the Masters in November. He was aiming to return to Augusta for the Masters in April, as stated over the weekend to CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz.
