24 mins: VAR got involved to make sure that Aubameyang was onside but he timed his run perfectly, remaining onside by sheer centimetres. The equation hasn’t changed for Benfica, they still need to score. Arsenal flick the ball out wide to Tierney who puts a cross into the box. It gets headed away as far as Ceballos who drills one from range and sends it wide of the right hand post.

21 mins: GOAL! Great finish from Aubameyang to give Arsenal the lead. Arsenal work the ball nicely over on the right wing and Odegaard slots it inside to Saka. He brings it further into the middle of the final third before slotting a nicely weighted ball into the box for Arsenal’s captain. Aubameyang collects the ball, turns towards goal and chips it over Helton Leite to open the scoring in Athens.

18 mins: A nice run off the ball from Bellerin allows Arsenal to work it up the pitch before switching the play out to Tierney on the left hand side. He picks out Smith-Rowe in the middle of the box but his shot can’t find a way through the cluster of Benfica bodies in front of him.

15 mins: Benfica get in behind on the left hand side with Haris Seferovic who carries the ball into the box. He’s got absolutely no support as he is closed down by David Luiz and he mishits his effort at goal, skewing it into the middle of the box where Arsenal regain possession.

12 mins: Taarabt slots the ball into Goncalves who places a short pass into the box for Rafa Silva as Arsenal scramble to get back into their defensive shape. They do well and intercept Rafa’s squared ball into the middle of the box.

9 mins: Granit Xhaka knocks a ball over the top and gives Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a chase to keep the ball in play. He does and then brings the ball into the box before firing a shot at the near post where Leite is waiting to stop it.

6 mins: A nice bit of pace from Kieran Tierney allows him to get in behind Goncalves after he knocks the ball past the Benfica wingback. Tierney races to the loose ball, gets there first and puts a quick cross into the penalty area that gets deflected into the hands of Helton Leite in Benfica’s goal.

3 mins: Benfica are playing more of a pressing game than they did in the first leg forcing Arsenal to play the ball deeper. The visitors win the ball and attack with Diogo Goncalves on the right. He runs the ball into the box and cuts it back. Adel Taarabt tries to the win the loose ball but gives away a free kick.
