Today in sports news, artist Post Malone has released a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1994 song “Only Wanna Be With You” as part of the Pokemon 25th anniversary celebration.
If you’re asking what that has to do with sports, you need only pay attention to the lyrics of the cover; the original, sung by Darius Rucker, claimed “I’m such a baby ’cause the Dolphins make me cry.” But Post Malone, a noted Dallas fan, tweaked the lyrics to say, “I’m such a baby, yeah, the Cowboys make me cry.”

The Cowboys certainly gave Post Malone plenty of reasons to cry in 2020; they went 6-10, only the team’s third losing record in the past 11 seasons. The team was also without franchise quarterback Dak Prescott, whose season ended in Week 5 with a compound fracture and dislocated ankle against the Giants. And there’s no guarantee the team will lock him up to a long-term deal.
Better times are ahead, Post Malone. Regardless, this isn’t the first time he has snuck Cowboys references into his songs. In his 2018 song “Psycho,” for example, Post Malone drops a reference to former quarterback Tony Romo:
“My roof look like a no-show, got diamonds by the boatload /
Come with the Tony Romo for clowns and all the bozos.”
And, in his 2019 song “Wow.”:
“Always goin’ for it, never punt fourth down /
Last call, Hail Mary, Prescott touchdown, ayy.”
