A Long Island grave digger sadly ended up digging his own grave in a freak fatal accident.
Rodwin Allicock, 42, of Coram, died when the seven-foot-deep (or 2.1 metre) empty grave collapsed in on him while he was inside it, according to a press release from the Suffolk County Police.
Authorities say Allilock was working around 830 a.m. on Thursday at the Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in Mt. Sinai on Long Island when the accident occurred.
As the dirt filled the grave, his fellow employees tried but were unsuccessful in digging him out.
Among those responding to the scene were Police Emergency Service Section, Fire Rescue and Department of Public Works, all from Suffolk County, along with four other local fire departments but none were able to save him and he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Allicock’s death is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad.
