Man Utd have been boosted by the news that a centre-back target frequently linked with a move to Old Trafford will seek to push a move through if their interest as acted upon.
Man Utd have continually been linked with a series of summer transfer swoops to complement the good work Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently doing.
The Norwegian has the Red Devils sitting second in the table. Not content to rest on their laurels, however, a busy summer is expected to push the team closer to champions-in-waiting Man City.
Acquisitions in the forward ranks have so far made the biggest headlines.
A recent report detailed no fewer than four wingers reportedly on the club’s radar. Erling Braut Haaland, meanwhile, remains in the mix as a potential race between Man Utd and Chelsea to land his signature looms.
The area which may require the most urgent attention, however, is at centre-half.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have performed capably as a pair. But questions have been asked as to whether they are a partnership capable of underpinning a sustained title tilt.
One player who has been linked with a move to potentially disrupt the duo is Nikola Milenkovic.
The Fiorentina centre-back stands at an imposing 6ft 5in tall and has become a key target for Solskjaer’s side.
His asking price was recently revealed after a prior report noted Man Utd are currently in ‘pole position’ to land him.
Now, according to Goal (who cite Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport), Milenkovic himself is ‘open’ to the move.
Furthermore, they add that the 23-year-old will actively seek to ‘push for the transfer’ if a formal bid arrives.
The Serbian’s contract expires in the summer of June 2022. As such, this summer would be the ideal opportunity for La Vioal to maximise their profits with any potential sale.
Man Utd star walking contract tightrope
Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly in fresh contract talks with centre-back Eric Bailly, who only has 16 months left on his current deal.
The 26-year-old has struggled for form and fitness since arriving at Old Trafford in 2016. Indeed, he made only 12 appearances throughout the whole of last season.
This campaign has been a different story, however, with Bailly fully fit and impressing when called upon.
His latest outing was alongside Victor Lindelof as United shut out Real Sociedad again in the Eurpopa League.
Bailly’s current Old Trafford contract runs out in June 2022. But his form has seen the club open talks over extending it.
However, the report in The Sun claims that if Bailly does not sign by the summer then he faces being sold.
