Longueuil police met this week with residents of a neighbourhood that was the scene of a shooting incident in an effort to address their worries and direct them resources able to provide them with assistance should they require it.
The officers visited residents of Béliveau Blvd. not far from Pierre Boucher Hospital after an altercation on Monday between two men ended with at least four shots being fired.
The incident occurred at a little after midnight and a suspect was quickly arrested and a rifle was seized. Police said the two men involved in the incident know each other. There were no injuries reported.
Longueuil police said they understood the incident could heighten a feeling of insecurity on the part of residents which is why members of the department’s community relations section were assigned to meet with them and, if necessary, refer them to community services that could assist them.
Last autumn, after a series of shooting incidents in northeast Montreal, local police announced they would increase their presence in the area and be more visible in local neighbourhoods in an effort to reassure the population.
Meanwhile the investigation into the Longueuil shooting continues despite the fact an arrest has been made. Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to call police at 450-646-8500.
