The Calgary Fire Department tackled a fire involving three vehicles in the parkade of a 29-story building on Tuesday evening.
Around 9:30 p.m., the CFD responded to a 911 call for alarms at a building in the 1300 block of 1 Street S.E.
Crews were directed to the parkade of a 29-storey residential tower. Inside they had to contend with heavy smoke but were able to use thermal imaging cameras to locate three burning vehicles.
The firefighters were able to bring the fire under control while others evacuated the apartments above. About 250 people were temporarily evacuated to the street below while smoke was cleared from the living area and air quality was checked.
The CFD used a large trailer-mounted fan to move smoke out of the parkade.
Both Calgary Police and AHS were on scene to assist. Fire damage was limited to the three vehicles, and smoke damage was reported through the entire parkade.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but the investigation continues.
