After the incident, Mamata Banerjee spoke to the media and said “I was standing near the car when 4-5 people suddenly came and pushed me. My leg was crushed. This is a conspiracy against me. There were no policemen around me.”
While getting into the backseat of her car, Banerjee – who was gasping heavily – told media persons, “Look at my leg. There is swelling. I am feeling feverish. Please leave me alone now…I am having chest pain…not feeling well. I want to go to Kolkata for treatment.”
BJP raises questions over Mamata’s injury
Bharatiya Janata Party’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya talking to ABP News termed the incident as a dramatic stunt for seeking sympathy. He questioned how could this happen amid the convoy she was surrounded by. He added that the BJP wants a CBI probe into the matter so that the truth is unveiled.
Senior officials of West Bengal have sought a report from SP and DIG on the incident. Action to be initiated based on these reports.
Eyewitness Claims Mamata Banerjee was not pushed
Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination from Nandigram on Wednesday and was expected to spend the night in the constituency but she returned immediately to Kolkata, around 130 km away after getting injuured. A green corridor was created for fast access to the SSKM Hospital, where she was admitted.
The Chief Minister underwent a battery of tests including neurological tests and an X-ray of her left leg. Late in the night, she was sent to the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences at SSKM for an MRI.
News agency ANI reported that according to an eyewitness called Suman Maity, Mamata had been surrounded by a throng of people at the time she got injured. “When she came here, the public gathered around her and she got hurt in her neck and leg,” the student said. When asked whether she was pushed, he replied “no” and said their car had been moving slowly at the time of the incident.
