The Premier League is back in action once again this week with a host of entertaining fixtures as we continue to steamroll towards the last few months of the season. There are a few clear races in which the favourite is becoming clear but in equal measure, there’s also a great deal of uncertainty still in the mix as we head into the heart of March. Today, we’re going to take a look at a clash between two teams who have Champions League football on their mind – Manchester United and West Ham.
Manchester United
While they may not be on the verge of usurping Manchester City in the title race, there’s still a lot to be said for the manner in which Manchester United have gone about their business this season. They’re starting to rediscover the kind of identity we were all used to seeing from back in the Fergie days and if they can keep that up beyond the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will fancy his side to kick on and really get moving next season.
Team News
Due to de Gea self isolating we may see Henderson feature once again here. Martial and Rashford are fitness doubts with Jones, Cavani, Mata, van de Beek and Pogba being ruled out through injury.
West Ham
Never, ever rule out David Moyes – that’s the lesson we all have to take from this Premier League season. West Ham United were pinpointed as a team that would struggle to survive another year based on their transfer window dealings, but instead, they’ve been able to flourish in a way that has allowed them to rapidly climb up the table. If they can win here or even get a point, the dream of returning to European football gets even closer.
Team News
Lingard is unable to play due to the loan agreement in place with the Red Devils with Randolph and Fredericks being fitness doubts. Elsewhere, the three confirmed injury absences are Ogbonna, Yarmolenko and Masuaku.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in February, Man United beat West Ham 1-0 in the FA Cup.
- Man United have won two and drawn four of their last six games.
- West Ham have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Man United have scored six goals and conceded two in their last six games.
- West Ham have scored eight goals and conceded four in their last six games.
While both sides may have been able to pride themselves on strong defensive records over the course of the last few weeks, we think that’s all going to go flying out of the window this weekend. In place of that we should get a really entertaining battle between two teams locked in an increasingly fierce battle for the top four. In the end, though, we’re backing Manchester United to just edge this one out in what might be a slightly optimistic 3-2 scoreline prediction.
