Joe Biden has spoken out about the sexual harassment scandal embroiling New York governor Andrew Cuomo for the first time, saying the “investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us”, his appeal for patience following House speaker Nancy Pelosi urging the governor to “look inside his heart” as he considers resignation.
The US’s top infectious diseases expert, Dr Anthony Fauci, has meanwhile called on ex-president Donald Trump to urge his loyal supporters to get a Covid-19 vaccine in response to Republicans expressing negativity towards inoculation in opinion polling.
“I think it would make all the difference in the world,” Dr Fauci told Fox News’s Chris Wallace on Sunday of Mr Trump’s potential intervention. “He’s a widely popular person among Republicans.”
Trump fans mocked for praising his ‘dreadful’ appearance at Mar-a-Lago event
Speaking of Donald Trump, how’s the old rogue keeping?
Republicans attending a Florida social event over the weekend were keen to report sightings of the 45th president in the wild and to shower him with lavish praise about his (frankly rather flushed) appearance.
“President Trump is looking better than ever before!!,” tweeted right-wing author Nick Adams. “He’s getting in shape for 2024 and the liberals are freaking out!!”
That, of course, was catnip to the wags of Twitter.
Gustaf Kilander has this roundup of the inevitable mockery that ensued.

Fauci calls on Trump to encourage Republicans to get vaccinated
The US’s top infectious diseases expert, Dr Anthony Fauci, has called on ex-president Donald Trump to urge his loyal supporters to get a Covid-19 vaccine in response to Republicans expressing negativity towards inoculation in opinion polling.
“I think it would make all the difference in the world,” Dr Fauci told Fox News’s Chris Wallace on Sunday of Mr Trump’s potential intervention. “He’s a widely popular person among Republicans.”
Just 30 per cent of Trump voters said they have been vaccinated or want to get one, compared to 47 per cent who said they would not, a recent NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found.

Biden speaks out on Cuomo allegations
Joe Biden has spoken out about the sexual harassment scandal embroiling New York governor Andrew Cuomo for the first time, saying the “investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us”, his appeal for patience following House speaker Nancy Pelosi urging the governor to “look inside his heart” as he considers resignation.
Six women have come forward with detailed accusations alleging sexual misconduct by the governor, prompting an investigation by state attorney general Letitia James and an impeachment inquiry by the New York State Assembly.
But Governor Cuomo has denied the allegations and made it clear he has no intention of quitting his position, insisting he would not bow down to “cancel culture”.
