- ZTE has revealed that an upcoming flagship will have three 64MP cameras.
- Presumably this means we can expect ultra high-resolution main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras.
It’s not unheard of to find two ultra-high resolution rear cameras on today’s smartphones, such as the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Oppo Find X3 Pro, and OnePlus 8 Pro. But it looks like ZTE is going one better with an upcoming smartphone.
ZTE mobile president Ni Fei posted on Weibo that an upcoming Axon flagship will offer three 64MP cameras. This certainly makes for an interesting spec sheet. Check out the machine-translated post below.
There’s no confirmation on specs for this camera setup at this stage, but the executive’s comments regarding a “full focal length” suggest we’re looking at a main/ultra-wide/telephoto combination. ZTE also previously teased that an upcoming device would have three main cameras.
Having three 64MP camera sensors doesn’t guarantee fantastic image quality across the board though, as not all 64MP sensors are made equal. We’ve previously seen budget-focused 64MP sensors with tiny pixels that deliver mediocre low-light performance, while sensors like the Sony IMX686 bring high resolution and bigger pixels too.
In saying so, we’ve seen the Oppo Find X3 Pro offer two identical main and ultra-wide cameras recently (50MP), allowing for more consistent colors and detail between the two shooters. So if ZTE is using two or three identical high resolution cameras, then we could expect a similar level of consistency between the three snappers.
