ENOUGH COMPLAINING ALREADY!
Now that March Madness has begun, it seems the whingeing and crying of the athletes has begun. They are upset over the failure of not getting compensated for their use of names, likeness, and so on. It is not a surprise, as we live in a society where most believe they are owed and entitled to something. If you do not like free education, recognition from sport fans, and the obvious windfalls by getting into the NBA, then go get a job. No one is forcing you to play ball. The NCAA is a business in which you are a commodity. So, just like in any workplace, if you don’t like it, leave. Until then, leave your comments at the door and do your job!

SPENDING LAWS
Re “Trouble with a capital T” (Mark Bonokoski, March 21): It is unconscionable that self-serving politicians are allowed to pile up debt on the backs of future generations. How can a moral person do that? They laugh and pat each other on the back during budget readings as they steal money from unborn children, saddling them with liabilities they had no part in. It is theft. It is criminal, plain and simple. It is a practice that should be illegal. We need an irrevocable law put in place that all budgets must be balanced.

(At the municipal level, they cannot, by law, run a deficit, but make no mistake, they wish they had the taxing authority just like the feds and the province to rack up debt, then raise taxes to pay it)
SILENCE ON VACCINES
I find it terrible that teachers, who are expected to be in class daily, are not on the top of the list to be vaccinated. The school my son teaches at just had another positive variant test (his class was already shut down once, just before Christmas). The people are in classrooms with children and teens and they, the teachers, really have no control over who these kids are with once they leave the classroom. These same teachers also have spouses and children to go home to. I just cannot believe their union, which is normally pretty outspoken, has been so strangely silent on this issue.

LET’S TALK TORIES
Warren Kinsella’s March 21 column (“Unfinished business”) should give the Conservative Party good advice. If you want to beat the Liberals in the next election, choose a celebrity leader, if possible. It is all about optics. A famous actor, musician, athlete, and so on would attract more attention. Another issue the Conservative Party could look at is who their MPs are. Look at the list of names and pictures of Tory MPs. Then look at the list of names and pictures of Liberal MPs. PC = Progressive Conservative. PC also stands for Primarily Caucasian. Still the party of angry white men.

(The Conservatives have made every effort to recruit candidates that are more reflective of the diversity of Canada. It will take more time, but they aren’t as “angry” as you think they are)
