A teenage boy has died in Birmingham following a hit-and-run.
The victim was 16 years old and is believed to have been a pillion passenger in a moped in Rocky Lane, Perry Barr. The accident happened just before 7:20pm on Monday and involved a collision with a car.
West Midlands Police have said that an investigation is underway to trace the vehicle and its occupants after it fled the scene.
The 16 year old victim suffered from a serious injury to his head in the crash and was later pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon in hospital, police reported.
The police also cited several reports from people who told them that another moped was being ridden in tandem with the bike. The rider of this was also seen moving-off from the scene.
Detective Inspector Adam Jobson said: “We’ve spoken to several people as we try and piece together a clear picture of what happened – and we are in the process of seizing and examining CCTV in the area.
“The car driver made off and I would encourage them to do the right thing and come and speak to us about what happened.
“It’s important we hear their side of the story.”
Specially trained family liaison officers are supporting those closest to the teenager.
According toThe Birmingham Mail the teenager has been named locally as Liam and flowers and messages were left in his memory at the scene.
