Where on earth do you begin with this one?
It seems like 90% of Sergio Aguero’s time at Manchester City has been spent wheeling away in celebration, though with the announcement he’s set to leave the club this summer, at least there’s just the 257 City goals (for now) for us to wade through before picking out our top ten.
The Argentina international leaves the Etihad Stadium with no fewer than four Premier League titles, an FA Cup and five EFL Cups to his name, and who knows how many more additions there’ll be to that list come the end of the season.
Anyway, we won’t keep you any longer. Here’s a look at out top ten goals from Aguero’s time at Manchester City…
When you move to the Premier League for a figure as eye-watering as £35m, you aren’t going to be given much time to bed into your new surroundings before being expected to produce the goods.
Many foreign imports have fallen foul of such levels of expectation, but not Sergio.
The hitman struck twice on his City debut against Swansea, and it’s the second of his two strikes that make it into the number ten spot on our list.
Aguero needed just one touch to get the ball out of his feet before unleashing an unstoppable drive past Swans goalkeeper Michel Vorm and into the bottom corner.
A truly memorable introduction to the Premier League,
One thing you could never accuse Aguero of is padding out his goal record against poor opposition.
The City frontman has a stellar record against some of the best sides in the Premier League, and Manchester United in particular will be glad to see the back of him.
The first of our entries against City’s neighbours is his thunderous strike at the Etihad in November 2018. Aguero played a lovely one-two with Riyad Mahrez before firing the ball high into the net, giving David de Gea no chance.
Aguero bagged himself a brace as City blew Sunderland away at the Stadium of Light back in 2014, and the first of his two goals was an absolute beauty.
The Argentine picked up the ball and nutmegged Sebastian Coates before rifling the ball past former City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon and into the back of the net.
Manchester United entry number two.
David Moyes wasn’t enjoying the greatest of starts to life as United boss when the two sides met back in September 2013, so the last thing he needed was a drumming away at their local rivals.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side hit the front early on thanks to the brilliance of Aguero.
Samir Nasri combined with Aleksandar Kolarov on the City left before the latter swung the ball into the box. There was still plenty to do but Aguero made it look simple, taking the ball on the volley and firing his side into the lead.
Well, it wasn’t exactly a brilliant goal, but it’s pretty much illegal not to talk about it in any article that even mentions the name Sergio Aguero.
That being said – given the immense pressure he was under – it was still a nice strike.
With City’s Premier League title dreams hanging by a thread and United ready to celebrate, Aguero skipped by the challenge of Nedum Onuoha and smashed the ball into the bottom corner.
Like you even need reminding of that goal.
Another strike against one of the Premier League’s big hitters.
Chelsea were well and truly demolished by City on their visit to the Etihad back in February 2019, and no surprise Aguero was at the forefront of it all.
He hit a hat-trick as Pep Guardiola’s men ran out convincing 6-1 winners, with his first goal of the game drawing plaudits as he curled an unbelievable 20-yard effort past the helpless Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Aguero’s low centre of gravity has seen him gliding past Premier League defenders with ease since his arrival in England ten years ago, and it was there for all to see as he tore Watford’s defence apart in 2017.
Picking the ball up on the right-hand side, the tricky frontman managed to wriggle his way past four Hornets players before sliding the ball under Heurelho Gomes.
Aguero’s strike against Liverpool in 2013 gets the nod for our number three spot purely for the audacity alone.
With Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina rushing out, the City forward beat him to the ball but found himself running towards the corner flag with his back to goal. Not to be denied, Aguero swivelled and somehow managed to hook the ball back towards goal and over the retreating Liverpool back line.
The goal was a combination of skill, agility and audacity, and it summed Aguero up as a player.
We promise this is the last one for any United fans who are for some reason reading an article about City’s greatest ever goalscorer.
Undoubtedly his finest Manchester derby goal, Aguero weaved his way through United’s backline, leaving a host of defenders in his wake before showing the balance to stay on his feet and unleash a venomous drive past De Gea.
Maybe not a goal that instantly springs to mind when you think of great Aguero goals, but honestly it’s brilliant.
The Argentine linked up with countryman Carlos Tevez, with the pair playing an instinctive one-two before Aguero fired a pinpoint drive past John Ruddy and into the top corner.
Everything about the goal just oozed class, from the creativity in the buildup to the execution of the finish, and that’s why it gets top spot on our list of the greatest Aguero goals for Manchester City.
