Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will keep manager Jose Mourinho in his job regardless of this season’s outcome, according to a report.
Mourinho had Spurs in a strong position in the first half of the season. The club sat top of the Premier League before Christmas, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min crucial. But while the pair have continued to score goals, Tottenham’s form has slipped. As such, they now face a fight to make the top four.
Furthermore, their hopes of Europa League glory are over after a shock exit to Dinamo Zagreb.
Therefore, Spurs‘ hopes of ending a 13-year trophy drought rest on them beating Manchester City in April’s Carabao Cup final, though their opponents are the favourites.
As a result, pressure has mounted on Mourinho, who has faced calls to get the sack.
Previous reports have outlined how Levy will assess the Portuguese’s tenure at the end of the season.
According to Football Insider, though, Levy will give Mourinho another season, regardless of how this campaign pans out.
The chairman has concerns over sacking the manager, given that he is still largely working with predecessor Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Mourinho has etched his own style into the team, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg proving a key signing.
However, Levy is wary that the manager has not had too many transfer windows in which to work.
Therefore, he will back Mourinho with a ‘major summer rebuild’, Football Insider adds.
In fact, only a ‘catastrophic’ end to the season would make Levy think twice, the report adds.
Mourinho transfer enquiry rebuffed
According to Spanish source Defensa Central, Mourinho has already begun his preparation for the upcoming transfer window.
Spurs have made an enquiry to Real Madrid over youngster Miguel Gutierrez, but Los Blancos have turned them down.
In fact, several other clubs have also been rebuffed for a player who reportedly has the ability to step up to Zinedine Zidane’s team.
