Leeds forward Rodrigo has hit out at transfer speculation which claimed that he feels unsettled and wants to leave Elland Road.
The 30-year-old arrived in West Yorkshire last summer as the Whites’ record signing. A regular Spain international, his status and fee gave the club exciting hope about their new player. However, Rodrigo has largely struggled to make the impact many had hoped in his first season.
The attacker suffered a groin injury in January, following on from a positive coronavirus test.
As such, he has managed three goals and one assists in 22 appearances in all competitions. Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa therefore leapt to his player’s defence with a staunch message for his recent signing.
Nevertheless, reports have recently claimed that Rodrigo feels unsettled. Furthermore, the speculation said that he never wanted the move to England in the first place and has requested to leave.
Amid the claims, the forward took to Instagram to set the record straight, taking exception to his rule of steering clear of transfer stories about him.
He wrote: “I’m not a person to comment on nonsense stories, however in this case I want to make it clear that stories about me wanting to leave Leeds and a bad relationship with Marcelo are false.
“I am very sorry that some people try to misinform our fans – my feelings are the opposite.
“I am happy, focused and working hard to help my teammates to end this great season in the best possible way. I love being at Leeds, I respect my coach and I identify with this Club!
“Come on Leeds MOT.”
Rodrigo did not make Spain’s latest squad for the country’s World Cup qualification triple header.
Bielsa’s defence of Leeds star Rodrigo
Bielsa told a press conference of Rodrigo earlier this month: “To explain exactly, Rodrigo arrived at the start of the competition with no pre-season for us.
“It took him four weeks to become a starter and after playing his best game, which was against Aston Villa, then he became sick. He was ill for 20 days, then after that to get back to his best state took him a month.
“He played 10-12 games at a medium to high level then picked up that injury which he was out for five weeks with.”
