Jose Mourinho has hinted that the onus will be very much on Harry Kane should the striker decide he wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Kane has spent his entire professional career with Tottenham, only leaving for a few loan spells earlier in his career. He has been their most important player for a number of years. Sadly, he does not have a trophy to reflect that – which has led to him considering his future.
The England captain has previously warned Spurs that he won’t just stay with them for the sake of it if they are not matching his ambition.
Turning 28 before the start of next season, time is probably running out if Kane wants to move to a European giant. He is obviously still in the prime of his career, but if he wants to spend that at an elite club, he will have a decision to make.
Kane has been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United. There is also long-standing interest from La Liga, where Barcelona have joined Real Madrid in the hunt.
Perhaps the strongest interest comes from Manchester City. With the iconic Sergio Aguero to replace, they’re in need of another No 9. Pep Guardiola has done his best to play down talk of a big splash, however.
Kane though has done little to deny rumours of an exit. He recently admitted he would review his club future after England’s Euro 2020 campaign ends in the summer.
That admission was followed by reports that he would be “seriously considering” a move away, amid the news of Barcelona’s interest.
Mourinho though insists Kane is yet to ask him to leave. The Portuguese insists his door remains open, however, having told the striker it will be up to him if he needs a discussion on his future.
“He works so well every day. He is such a professional, committed with the team, performing well,” Mourinho said.
“I’ve nothing to speak with him (about). Three years of his contract (remaining). I have nothing to speak with him.
“Unless he wants to speak with me about it and until now he never approached me in relation to anything.”

Price put on Harry Kane head
It will be difficult for any club to get Kane out of Spurs this summer especially as how finances in the game have been heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
And in a show of strength about what Kane means to the club, chairman Daniel Levy is reported to have taken a tough stance.
According to The Sun, Levy will refuse to sell Kane to a Premier League rival. That would end his chances of joining City or United.
Furthermore, Levy has set an asking price of £175m to sell Kane to a foreign club. Neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid may be able to afford that.
Spurs, it seems, only look set to do business if they can sell players and Mourinho is predicting another “strange” window.
“Of course I have an idea,” Mourinho said when asked if he knows what he wants his squad to look like next season. “Of course we share our ideas. When I say we, I say myself and the structure including obviously the boss. So we know what we want.
“But at the same time we can all expect a strange summer. I believe that it will be a bit strange in the sense of a different transfer window than in previous seasons.
“But at the moment I don’t think it is about anyone fighting for his future. It is about everyone fighting for the points we need to finish the season the best that we can.”
