COVID-19 cases confirmed at seven local schools over the weekend have prompted the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board to dismiss 184 students from in-person learning.
The board on Sunday announced students who may have been exposed to their infected classmates or fellow bus-riders are not to return to school on Tuesday.
The health unit is contacting any individual, both students and staff, who may have been affected to give them directions to follow.
Six of the impacted schools had one case of COVID-19, while one had two.
Twenty-four students were dismissed from St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School in Belle River following one confirmed case there.
At St. Mary Catholic Elementary School in Maidstone, two students have tested positive, resulting in the dismissal of a class of 20 students and an additional five students who ride the bus.
A class of 22 students was dismissed from St. Christopher Catholic Elementary School in Windsor.

At St. Peter Catholic Elementary School in Tecumseh, a class of 22 students was dismissed, as well as 17 additional students who ride the bus.
A class of 29 students has been dismissed from St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary School in Windsor.
Twenty-six students from one class were dismissed from St. Theresa of Calcutta Catholic Elementary School in Windsor.

Finally, from Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School in Windsor, a class of 19 students was dismissed.
A voice message to each school community was sent home Sunday afternoon to tell parents that if they have not been contacted by the health unit, their child has not been identified as a close contact and can continue attending school as usual.
Parents are to continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning and to keep them at home and call their health-care provider for further direction if they are ill.
Since in-class learning resumed in Windsor-Essex on Feb. 8, 562 students in the English Catholic board have been dismissed following possible exposure to COVID-19 at school. Twenty-five cohorts have been affected, as well as five school buses.
