Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have revealed who they would pick for England’s Euro 2020 squad.
The Sky Sports pundits debated who Gareth Southgate will include for this summer’s tournament on Monday Night Football.
Including whether to select Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was a notable omission for the last international break and the Three Lions’ World Cup qualifiers for Qatar 2022.
Alongside picking their squads, Neville discussed why Harry Maguire’s absence through injury would be a bigger problem for Southgate than losing Harry Kane: “I think it’s his biggest problem. I do [think he’s more important than Harry Kane], for this particular squad, Harry Kane is the best player in the squad.
“You have to think about who can play in a back three? You have to think if one player gets injured, where do you go to? If Kane gets injured, you could go Rashford, Sterling as a false nine.
“If Maguire is injured I think the ability to go to a back four is lost. Declan Rice being injured is a problem. The lack of depth behind Maguire as a dominant centre-back is nil in my opinion. If Maguire is not fit, I think it becomes a back three.”
