Assuring that there will be no lockdown or night curfew in the state, Sarma said that a SOP for the ensuing Bihu festival (agrarian festival celebrated in mid of April) will be issued. “We will ramp up the testing to one lakh per day following which there might be detection of cases however there is nothing to panic. Country is witnessing the second wave of COVID-19.”
He added, “On Wednesday we did 18,000 tests and we will ramp up the same to one lakh so that people can celebrate Bihu will gaiety. There is a qualitative difference between last year and this year for now our health workers are vaccinated and we are prepared.”
He added, “We may come out with SOP for Bihu wherein we may ask to wind up functions by 12 o’clock in the night, sit in the function as per the social distancing norms. Last year artists of the state were hard hit because we could not celebrate Bihu.”
Sarma who is also the health minister stated Schools in Assam will continue running.
