While complete disengagement has taken place on both sides of the Pangong Tso, areas of friction still remain along the LAC, with no forward movement for almost two months. Sources said that the Chinese side delayed the next round of talks but has now decided to meet on Friday.
The second round of disengagement is set to discuss pushing back of troops in Hot Springs and Gogra, areas where the PLA had placed heavy armour and artillery close to the border and has moved in troops across the LAC.
The third contentious area—the Depsang plains to the north—is yet to be discussed between the two sides and is being seen as a legacy issue not directly linked to the Chinese aggression last April when it diverted thousands of troops from an exercise in Tibet towards the LAC, taking control of disputed territory.
