A new interactive map is making it easier for travellers to identify where they might be able to visit once international travel restrictions lift.
Created by travel identification specialist Sherpa, the map enables users to select their destination of origin – for example, the UK – and then hover over destinations to discover the current inbound rules for arrivals.
Countries are also split into five coloured categories based on how open travel currently is.
Dark green means the country is open for travel and Covid testing or quarantine is not required; lime green means the country is open for travel but testing is required; yellow means the country is open for travel but testing is required, as is quarantine upon arrival; pink means entry is restricted and travel is only permitted for returning citizens and those meeting strict requirements; and pale blue means the travel restrictions are currently unknown.
Most countries are currently pink – meaning entry is restricted – but as the vaccine rollout continues in many countries at a pace, it’s likely that more places will start to move to yellow and green categories in the next few months.
Countries that are labelled dark green at present – meaning restriction-free travel from the UK is possible – include Mexico, Costa Rica, Tanzania, Estonia and Albania.
However, all international leisure travel remains illegal in England until 17 May at the earliest, as per the government’s roadmap.
If you click on a destination, the handy map also provides extra details. Click on Estonia, for example, and a pop-up box informs the traveller that they must complete a mandatory health declaration form to travel there, and that masks must be worn in public.
