IPL 2021, KKR vs MI: The last three overs changed the scenario for KKR in the match against Mumbai Indians. After scoring 152 in the first innings, a few would have said that MI would manage to secure a victory, and rightly so. Even up until the end of 17 overs, Kolkata were heading towards an easy victory.
Nitish Rana played a steady innings of 57 (47). It was an ideal innings, given the circumstances. He scored an opening partnership of 72 runs with Shubman Gill. But once the opening partnership was broken by brilliant bowling from Rahul Chahar, there was no stopping Mumbai. Rahul Chahar picked 4-27 and also received the man of the match award for his performance.
Krunal Pandya also bowled some tight overs. He bowled at an economy of 3.2 rpo. At that stage, he was responsible for bringing down the required run rate. Even during the last three overs, 22 were required of 18 when Krunal just gave away three runs followed by a four run over by Jasprit Bumrah. All this while, Karthik and Russell were at the crease who were not able to connect simple balls. Finally, 15 were required of the last over when Boult bowled a brilliant four run over and picked two wickets.
Epic Come-back win for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Let’s see what the captains said after the match:
Eoin Morgan: “Yes, disappointing (to lose). Played some really good cricket for most parts of the game, we looked comfortable in the chase, but they are a strong team, came back well and sad that it didn’t work out for us. Made a few mistakes, will need to sort it out.”
Rohit Sharma: Was a great fightback, excellent fightback by each one of them. You don’t see a game like this often. Lots of confidence from this game and we move forward. We need to understand how we need to bat at the death but I don’t want to take anything away from the boys. SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) has carried his form well.”
