Sivaganga police on Monday seized Rs 1,000 notes with a face value of Rs 4.8 crore from a physiotherapist near Kalayarkovil.
According to reports, the 41-year-old physiotherapist A Arul Chinnapparaj, upon being interrogated, told the police officials that he had got the demonetized notes from S Varalakshmi who was running an old age home at Chengalpattu.

The cops later detained Varalakshmi who told police that she had saved this money from donations from people and NGOs to construct a building.
She went on to say that the former had promised to help her exchange the notes for commission.
Though the claims made by both the accused are yet to be verified, Sivaganga SP M Rajarajan said prima facie it appeared that a gang in Chennai had promised to pay them Rs 15 lakh for every Rs 1 crore of demonetised currency.
The case came to highlight when the police officials got a tip-off about the demonetised money. The team conducted a raid at Arul’s residence when they found Rs.1,000 notes which were banned four years ago.
