Power of Words by local Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej. Behold, the ‘Power of Words’ sculptures at Qasr Al Watan. Qasr Al Watan is home to three Power of Words sculptural masterpieces that are unique to the Palace of the Nation. These pieces of art, which have been erected in different colors and sizes, are a true testament of traditional Arabian craftsmanship and artistry.
Designed and crafted by the renowned Emirati artist, Mattar bin Lahej, the Power of Words installations represent part of the legacy laid down by the UAE’s late founding father. Each sculpture features an interlaced inscription from an Arabic quote attributed to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The original Power of Words sculpture located inside the Palace features the following quote: “Wealth is not money or oil; wealth lies in people and it is worthless if not dedicated to serve the people.”
In addition to the spectacular piece of art which sits inside Qasr Al Watan, sunlight can be seen glinting off the reflective surfaces of two silver sculptures located in the garden, representing two more of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s quotes. The two sculptures are smaller versions of the Power of Words sculpture housed within the halls of the Palace.
The first quote reads: “Science and history walk side by side. By using science, man can record his history and preserve it for generations to come, so others may learn from it and come to know what their ancestors achieved.”
The second quote reads: “The education of our people is a great wealth. We are proud of our educated nation because through knowledge and science we will open the horizon to a glorious future.”
The original Power of Words sculpture located inside the Palace weighs six tons, while the two other sculptures on display in the Gardens are slightly smaller and weigh four tons each. The sculptures were designed for visitors to step inside and discover the masterpieces from a different perspective.
With its unmatched, multi-layered cultural visitor experience, Qasr al Watan seeks to inspire visitors and offers a deep understanding about the journey of a nation and its vision for the future.
