CBSE board exams 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Education Secretary, and other government officials ended. According to reports, a decision on whether to conduct the CBSE Board exams for Class 10th and 12th could be taken during the key meet. Reports say that PM Modi has taken note of demands to cancel exams as a fresh wave of Covid-19 situation has gripped the nation.
The CBSE Board exams are scheduled to be held from May 4 to June 7, the result will be announced by July 15.
The chorus to postpone or cancelled exams are ongoing as already over a lakh petitions to cancel exams have been signed at change.org. Ministers, politicians, actors and noted pesonalities have supported the demands of parents and students to delay the exams. While some has suggested to explore alternative methods for assessment, some have urged to conduct exams online.
On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal suggested that children can be promoted this time on the basis of either an online method or internal assessment, but “exams should be cancelled”.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too had echoed similar sentiments. He said that conducting CBSE exams must be reconsidered, adding that all stakeholders must be consulted before making sweeping decisions.
India is currently witnessing a fresh wave of Covid-19. States like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are worst-hit by the pandemic. Registering a steady increase for the 35th day in a row, India recorded 1,84,372 new cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally of cases to 1,38,73,825, while the active cases surpassed the 13-lakh mark. The death toll increased to 1,72,085 with 1,027 new fatalities, the highest since October 18, last year.
Several states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra are among others that have already postponed the board exams in view of the deteriorating Covid-19 situation.
