Britons joined the Queen in falling silent on Saturday to mark the start of the funeral for the Duke of Edinburgh marking his life of devotion and duty.
The ceremony began at 3pm with a procession in he grounds of Windsor Castle with only a handful of royal guests.
With crowds prohibited by coronavirus rules, the public was asked instead to observinga minute’s silence.

The mood was sombre, but the 60 seconds of silence gave mourners a moment to reflect on the life of Prince Philip, who spent much of his life serving this country, as both a Naval officer and a senior royal figure, but also those who lost their lives to the pandemic in the last year.
