Port of Montreal longshoremen began the first in a series of weekend strikes on Saturday.
The action comes on top of the overtime strike launched this week. They will cease work on Saturdays and Sundays for an unlimited period, but will not put up pickets.
Representatives of the two parties met on Thursday in the presence of the three mediators already assigned to the file by the federal Ministry of Labour.
The 1,150 longshoremen at the Port of Montreal have been without a collective agreement since September 2018. The first strike vote dates back to December 2018. It has been repeated regularly since.
The partial strike was announced by the union last Sunday after the Maritime Employers Association announced it would cut pay conditions for longshoremen.
