Chennai, April 18: Amid rapidly rising Covid-19 cases, Tamil Nadu government on Sunday announced night curfews and complete lockdown on Sundays to contain the spread of virus. Beginning April 20, the curfew will remain in force between 10 pm to 4 am, everyday.
After Chief Minister K Palanisamy chaired a high level meeting here to review the COVID-19 scenario in the state, the government announced measures, including the Sunday lockdown to help prevent the rapid rise in the spread of virus.
Essential services like milk and newspaper deliveries, hospitals and diagnostic centres, pharmacies, ambulance, and vehicles transporting petrol, diesel, LPG will be exempted from night curfew timings.

- Only essential services allowed to operate during night curfew.
- Media, petrol pumps, continuous process industries exempted.
- Transport for emergency medical need, airport, railway station alone will be allowed.
- All beaches, parks and places of tourist attaractions will remain shut
- During the night curfew, private and public transport including those by autorickshaws and taxis shall not be allowed.
- Visit to beaches, zoos and all tourist destinations like Nilgiris and Kodaikanal is barred.
- Summer camps not allowed.
- A minimum 50 per cent work from home to be adopted by the companies.
- The government announced the postponement of Class 12 board exams for stateboard students. However, practical exams which began on Friday will continue as scheduled.
- Parcel facility allowed from hotels from 6am- 10am, 12pm- 3pm and 6pm-9pm on Sundays.
- 100 people allowed for weddings and 50 for funerals.
- Persons whose work timings fall in the night too can be allowed to go to their place of work by producing required ID.
