Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and has mild symptoms. “After experiencing mild symptoms, I’ve just tested positive for COVID,” the 50-year-old posted on Twitter. “All those who’ve been in contact with me recently, please follow all safety protocols and stay safe,” he wrote.
A number of leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished him speedy recovery. “I pray for the good health and quick recovery of Lok Sabha MP Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji,” Modi said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also wished Gandhi a speedy recovery on Twitter.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, who is also infected with the virus, wished him a recovery soon. “I pray for ur good health and speedy recovery,” Kejriwal wrote.
Rashtriya Janata Party (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav also urged him to get well soon.
Some Twitter users, however, questioned the timing of Gandhi’s decision to cancel his rallies in West Bengal and him getting infected with coronavirus.
Announced just 24 hours before he would have sent sample for testing & just 48 hours before he got positive result. So a legitimate question -Did @RahulGandhi cancel his rallies (he alone cancelled not Congress which continued) because he suspected COVID but tried to grandstand? https://t.co/KB866MBxTC

Meanwhile, Gandhi later also hit out at the government over its vaccine policy, alleging it is discriminatory and that there is no vaccine guarantee for the weaker sections. He also said there will be no free vaccine for those between the age of 18 and 45 years.
A number of Congress leaders, including former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma have tested positive for COVID-9. Singh is admitted to AIIMS in Delhi. Sharma has been shifted to a private hospital in Gurgaon, sources said Tuesday.
The 68-year-old Anand Sharma (68), who was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Delhi late last night, tested positive for the infection on Tuesday and has now been moved to the Medanta Hospital, sources close to him said.

In other news, Jammu and Kashmir leader Omar Abdullah’s father Farooq Abdullah tested negative for Covid-19. “It’s a big relief for all of us at home that my father finally tested negative for COVID-19. In my case I’ve had two contradictory results with one test coming back negative & another positive. To be on the same side I’ll continue to self-isolate & will test again next week,” he said on Twitter.
