The Town of Pincourt will mark Earth Day on April 22 by asking citizens to take part in a Garbage Challenge contest.
Citizens are invited to snap a picture of themselves picking up litter in the forest or on the shoreline. Participants have until midnight on April 25 to send their photos to communication@villepincourt.qc.ca.
The town will draw prizes among all participants on Monday. Prizes include Planet Pouches, provided by Agro-Passion, and WaterSense certified shower heads.
The town is also taking steps to promote local bee pollination and biodiversity on its territory by naturalizing specific green spaces.
The town said the following areas will be left to lie fallow and will be identified as re-naturalization sites: chemin des Tours, Parc René-Lévesque and at the corner of 5th Ave. and Pincourt Blvd.
“By giving free rein to spontaneous flowering and by reducing grass cutting, nature will take back its course,” the town stated. “Citizens can also do their part to encourage pollination by leaving dandelions on their property or by planting wildflowers in pots or in the garden to feed pollinating insects.”
