20 people lost their lives due to the low supply of oxygen in Delhi’s ‘Jaipur Golden Hospital’ today. The hospital administration said that it has only half an hour of oxygen supply and 200 people’s lives are at stake.
The national capital has been witnessing an acute shortage of oxygen for the past few days as the Covid toll is surging high.
Delhi on Friday recorded 24,331 new coronavirus cases and 348 Covid-19 related deaths amid a severe crisis of oxygen and hospital beds in the city. Delhi has a positivity rate of 32 per cent 92,000 active cases.
Meanwhile, the Moolchand hospital chain in Delhi sent out an SOS this morning over oxygen shortage as it appealed for urgent help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Lt Governor Anil Baijal. More than 130 Covid patients are on life support, it stressed.
“Urgent sos help. We have less than 2 hours of oxygen supply @Moolchand_Hos. We are desperate have tried all the nodal officer numbers but unable to connect. Have over 135 COVID pts with many on life support #. @ArvindKejriwal @CMODelh i@LtGovDelhi @satinderjain26 @PMOIndia (sic),” read the tweet put out by Moolchand Healthcare this morning. The hospital has stopped admitting new patients till it resolves the issue.
Also Delhi, Batra Hospital’s MD spoke to ANI and said that they are not receiving the adequate amount of oxygen needed for the patients which is making the sitaution more difficult to handle.
“We have received only 500-litre of oxygen after pleading for 12 hours. Our daily requirement is 8000 litres. We’ve 350 patients in the hospital. The treatment of choice in COVID is oxygen but when we don’t get it what will happen?”, Dr SCL Gupta, MD, Batra Hospital.
