The Milwaukee Brewers placed star outfielder Christian Yelich on the 10-day injured list last week with a back strain. He is eligible to return Saturday but will not be activated.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Friday that Yelich still needs some more time to recover, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
Yelich hasn’t played since April 11 against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was slashing .333/.459/.367 with one RBI on 10 hits in nine games.
The Brewers are 6-3 in the 29-year-old’s absence and sit atop the NL Central with an 11-8 record.
Yelich has dealt with recurring back soreness in recent seasons, including all four of his years with the Brewers. It’s unclear if he’ll eventually need surgery to deal with the injury.
