Appearing as a guest on Friday’s Real Time show on HBO, CNN commentator S.E. Cupp demonstrated that she is the kind of ex-conservative CNN prefers — one who agrees with liberals on key issues rather than troubling the liberal news network’s audience with an opposing point of view.
Cupp not only declared that she agrees with liberals on the “climate change” issue, but she excoriated the Republican Party, claiming it was trying to squash both voting and protesting. She declared that the GOP “makes pornography of patriotism and practically fellates the Founding Fathers.” She also claimed that Republicans were trying to “rape democracy.”
As Bill Maher brought up the issue of the U.S. trying to fight global warming, referring to President Joe Biden’s plans to limit carbon emissions, the liberal HBO host lauded the President’s plans on the issue. Cupp then recalled that she had “evolved” into agreeing with liberals on the issue:
I was first here 11 years ago, and I think you and I have been talking about climate change in those 11 years. I’ve evolved a lot in my position — not because you’ve yelled at me for 10 years, right? Because change doesn’t happen at the barrel of a gun. I’ve evolved because science has been indisputable, and I’ve watched the science. I’ve even evolved in the ways to solve it — I agree with you.
A bit later, she went after Republicans for their push for new voting laws as she charged that the GOP was trying to undermine democracy:
If your biggest idea — your biggest problem — is that there is too much democracy, and so, “There’s too much voting — we’ve got to crack down on that — too much speech and protest and we’ve got to crack down on that — too much access to information, let’s crack down on that.” I mean, what a punch in the gut. And for a party — the Republican party — that makes pornography of patriotism and practically fellates the Founding Fathers — it is jarring and disorientating to watch them attack America this way.
Then, as if the violent protests and surge in violent crime that have occurred over the past year were inconsequential, Cupp then complained about new anti-riot laws pushed by Republicans:
Republicans have 81 new anti-protest laws around the country against stuff that’s already illegal. Illegal violence is already illegal, right? Looting is already illegal. If something’s already on the books, they want to make it super-extra-illegal or, you know, more punishable — misdemeanors become felonies — but this is what it looks like when you’re out of ideas. This is what it looks like when you’d rather rape democracy than come up with your own ideas. And they’re done — they’re done with ideas. They’ve given up on ideas.
Isn’t this the complaint about “hate crime” laws? That illegal violence is already illegal? At least Cupp made it clear “I’m voting with my wallet — I’m voting with my mouth — I’m voting with my feet. I voted for Joe Biden, and I’m not supporting this party.”

Real Time with Bill Maher
April 23, 2021
BILL MAHER: But I feel like Republicans are still dithering. I know you agree climate change is real.
S.E. CUPP, CNN CONTRIBUTOR: Totally.
MAHER: But you also say how we handle it is still debatable. Isn’t what Biden is doing not debatable? Isn’t that just what we should be doing? What’s the debate? I’m not sure how much longer we can keep debating about what we should be doing?
CUPP: Yeah, well, I think, I mean, I was first here 11 years ago, and I think you and I have been talking about climate change in those 11 years.
But I think what the problem is, when you try to make change at the barrel of a gun, and tell people who have questions that they’re stupid, and tell people that they can’t have questions or have a debate in science, right, which is supposed to be about asking questions and getting to the truth, I just don’t think that gets a lot of converts to a cause I know is really important to you.
MAHER: But the science is settled on this one. I agree with you on science in general, but not this one.
(…)
CUPP: If your biggest idea — your biggest problem — is that there is too much democracy, and so, “There’s too much voting — we’ve got to crack down on that — too much speech and protest and we’ve got to crack down on that — too much access to information, let’s crack down on that.” I mean, what a punch in the gut. And for a party — the Republican party — that makes pornography of patriotism and practically fellates the Founding Fathers — it is jarring and disorientating to watch them attack America this way.
APRIL RYAN, CNN CONTRIBUTOR: We know where her mind is tonight — we know where her mind is tonight. You said, “fellate the Founding Fathers.”
CUPP: I think I lost all my F’s — I think I lost all my F’s.
RYAN: I can’t do that.
MAHER: That’s exactly what they do.
(…)
CUPP: Not only that — Republicans have 81 new anti-protest laws around the country against stuff that’s already illegal.
BILL MAHER: That’s your party, is it not? So what is your solution to your party being out of ideas?
CUPP: Well, I mean, I’m voting with my wallet — I’m voting with my mouth — I’m voting with my feet. I voted for Joe Biden, and I’m not supporting this party.
