One man is dead after his vehicle crashed in as-of-yet unexplained circumstances Saturday morning in the Montérégie region of the South Shore.
The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. near the municipality of Godmanchester, about 75 kilometres southwest of Montreal, on a straight stretch of Route 202. Two people — a man and a woman, both in their 30s — were in the sports utility vehicle when it veered off the road, a Sûreté du Québec spokesperson said Saturday.
The SUV rolled over several times and the man was ejected. He was in critical condition when first responders arrived at the scene, and was declared dead at the hospital soon after. His travel companion suffered minor injuries, including unspecified fractures, the SQ said.
It’s too early to pinpoint the exact cause of the accident, and the investigation is still continuing, the SQ said.
Route 202 is still closed as of 2:40 p.m. in the vicinity of the accident.
