Adults age 55 and older can now receive a COVID-19 vaccine at mass vaccination sites in Windsor-Essex.
The local health unit on Thursday expanded the age eligibility for the jab, dropping the restriction from 60-plus.
Starting immediately, anyone born in 1966 or earlier can schedule an appointment regardless of where they live or if they have a medical condition that makes them “at-risk” for more severe COVID-19 complications.
Vaccinations are by appointment only. Everyone that schedules an appointment will be asked to attest that they are eligible for the vaccine, and asked to bring a health card to confirm their appointment. Those without a health card can bring any government-issued photo ID instead.
Anyone who provides false information to book their appointment may result in appointment cancellation, the health unit says.
The region’s mass vaccination clinics are located at The WFCU Centre (8787 McHugh St.) in Windsor, Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre (249 Sherk St.) in Leamington, the St. Clair College SportsPlex (2000 Talbot Rd.) in Windsor, Moy Medical Centre (1407 Ottawa St.) in Windsor, Windsor Hall (167 Ferry St.) in Windsor, and Libro Credit Union Centre (3295 Meloche Rd.) in Amherstburg.

Targeted vaccination clinics are also open to anyone age 40 and older living in a “hot spot” postal code (N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, and N9Y) or with an “at-risk” medical condition.
Prioritized health-care workers, people working in licensed child care settings, individuals with highest- and high-risk health conditions, and select essential caregivers can also receive the jab.
Anyone age 40 and older can be inoculated at 57 participating area pharmacies, though available doses at those locations are currently few and far between.
