The unabated second wave of the coronavirus continues to keep the country at the edge as India once again recorded over 3.92 lakh cases. The Union health ministry on Sunday morning reported that the country logged as many as 3,92,488 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, and 3689 deaths pushing the cummulative count to 1,95,57,457.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), around 29,01,42,339 samples tested up to 1st May 2021 for #COVID19. Of these, 18,04,954 samples were tested till Saturday. The crunch in medical supplies is leading to more deaths with medical facilities crumbling each day.
On Saturday, Batra Hospital’s head of the gastroenterology department, including 12 Coronavirus patients, died allegedly due to lack of oxygen.
Meanwhile, Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla shared about the pressures owing to the production of Covid-19 vaccines for meeting the rising demand during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Talking to a media outlet after being provided with ‘Y” category security by the government earlier this week, Poonawalla expressed his fear on receiving aggressive calls from some of the most powerful people in India, demanding supplies of Covishield – the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine that the Serum Institute is producing in India.
