All-English final
After Chelsea progressed past Real Madrid and Manchester City knocked out PSG, there will be an all-English Champions League final.
Thomas Tuchel was able to mastermind a 3-1 aggregate victory over Zinedine Zidane and Los Blancos.
Goals from Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Mason Mount were enough to wrap up the tie comfortably over 180 minutes.
Equally as impressive, Manchester City came from behind in their tie to win 4-1 on aggregate, thanks to 3 goals from Riyad Mahrez, and one from talisman Kevin De Bruyne.
This will mark the first time since their 2012 triumph that Chelsea have played in the finale of European football’s elite competition.
For Manchester City, they will be partaking in the showpiece for the very first time, having only ever reached the semi-finals once before this season.
City become the third new side in the final in successive seasons, after PSG last year, and Spurs the year prior.
Chelsea recently knocked Man City out of the FA Cup, and face the Citizens in the Premier League this weekend. The narrative is set, but what about the venue?
UCL final venue unlikely to move
The 2021 Champions League final is set to take place in Istanbul, Turkey, 16 years after the famous Liverpool comeback against AC Milan.
Turkey was set to host the final last season, but due to the pandemic, waved responsibility for a year so the competition could take place in the Portuguese city of Lisbon.
The final moving again, though, seems unlikely at this stage. Simon Evans, reporter for Reuters, pointed out that Turkey’s decision to give up last season’s showpiece makes it highly improbable that a similar move will be forthcoming this time around.
As of now, no-one has requested the Champions League final be moved. Not the clubs not the hosts. Istanbul waived their hosting rights last year in return for hosting this year. It will likely be up to them and no sign at moment that they want to withdraw.

The Times’ Martyn Ziegler also highlights that the Turkish Covid rate is falling, with the country expected to leave lockdown on May 17th.
There is also an expectation that 25,000 fans could be in attendance, with 8000 supporters of Chelsea & Man City invited.
Will be predictable calls to move CL final from Istanbul but it doesn’t look at all likely – Turkey is all set for it, Covid rate falling, lockdown ending on May 17, and 25k fans planned (incl 4,000+ allocated to each club).

Wherever the Champions League’s finale is played, a meeting between Chelsea and Manchester City, featuring Guardiola & Tuchel, De Bruyne & Havertz, and many more, is sure to light up the pitch.
