New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly, in an interview, confirmed that India will play three ODIs and five T20Is against Sri Lanka in July. The India vs Sri Lanka tour which is supposed to be held in July 2021 has confirmed that there are no signs of IPL being hosted any time soon.
India has the final of the World Test Championship scheduled in June. Virat Kohli’s men will play the WTC final against New Zealand from June 18 2021 at Southampton. (Earlier, the scheduled venue for the final was Lords) After the WTC final, India has a 5-match away Test series against England that will begin from August 5. So, speculations were made that IPL may be held between the available window of June 22, 2021, and August 5, 2021. But Sourav Ganguly has put an end to all the speculations by announcing that India will play a T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka in July 2021. Ganguly was talking in an interview with Sportstar magazine.
While answering a question about the IPL return, Sourav Ganguly said, “India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organizational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can’t happen in India. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL.”
Along with that, he also sympathized with the players who had to go through their life inside a bio-bubble. He said, “Bubble life is harsh; it’s the toughest thing. Since last September, a majority of players around the world have been living inside a bubble. There is no option. We can’t play cricket without the bubble.”
